Observing AA and NHPI Heritage Month: Cervical Cancer Awareness and Prevention

As we honor Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, it’s important to raise awareness about the health of older Asian American women. This group tends to be diagnosed with cervical cancer at more advanced stages, making early detection crucial.

Screening guidelines for cervical cancer are evolving, and many women may no longer need to undergo a Pap smear. Ensure the older women in your life are informed and up to date with the latest cancer prevention and screening recommendations.

One key risk factor for cervical cancer is bacterial vaginosis (BV), the most common vaginal infection, which affects up to half of postmenopausal women.
